Hi Sammi, the drawers on this bed do not extend beyond the front panels. Behind the drawers, there is a space, so the gap extends the full depth of the bed, providing open space behind the storage. Thank you.

Hi Rachael,The Ellison cabin bed with desk and storage cannot be assembled with the desk and headboard on the right-hand side, as it is designed to be fixed only in the configuration shown in the product images.Thanks!
