Hi, all new pans have a U bend cast into them. The U bend is where the waste goes through, this is also sometimes referred to as a P trap. The idea is that the water sits above the lowest point of the U which prevents bad foul smelling gas etc coming up from the soil pipe, this is why its also referred to as a “trap” because its traps the bad gas.
